yesになっていると5xx(permanet)を4xx(transient)に替えて返すようです。
src/smtpd/smtpd_check.c: smtpd_check_reject()にもコメントがありました。

リプライコード[45]35は認証に失敗しているということですが、
/usr/local/lib/sasl/smtpd.confの設定はされているでしょうか。
